122 Credits required for Cybersecurity Degree
The Neumann University Cybersecurity program prepares students for these demanding roles protecting critical computer systems, private data, communication infrastructures and intellectual property from cybercrime in both the private and public sectors. Neumann University students who complete the Cybersecurity program will have acquired the skills necessary to develop, evaluate and assess technology governance, identify risks to information technology and mitigate and manage responses to security incidents. Graduates of the Cybersecurity program can expect to be competitive in the job market as demand for cyber professionals with a bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity is expected to grow 18% through 2024 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2018). In addition, the curricula and material in this program will align with certification exams such as Security +, Certified Network Defender, and the Certified Information Systems Security Professional exams.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the Major in Cybersecurity the graduate will:
- Understand and articulate basic security concepts and models and how to defend against persistent and constantly evolving threats.
- Apply current technology, tools and systems as part of the process of implementing a security model based on defense in depth.
- Analyze cybersecurity risks at all levels while obtaining skills essential to designing inherently secure systems.
- Evaluate information security trends and practices and how to measure the performance of security systems within an organization.
- Discover how to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and availability of secure systems.
- Implement and understand both continuous and real-time network monitoring at all levels to analyze and detect malware and other cyberattacks.
- Learn to assess computer system security by using ethical hacking techniques:social engineering, vulnerability scans, reconnaissance, general hacking techniques, tools of the trade, red team recon, and password cracking to repel hackers.
Progression Criteria/Degree Requirements
Progression in the Cybersecurity major leading to a Bachelor of Science degree requires students to:
- Maintain a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA.
- Achieve a grade of “C” or higher for all general business, major, and NU core requirements specific to the Cybersecurity major.
- Complete a minimum of 122 credits.
School Repeat Policy
- General business, major, and NU core requirements specific to Cybersecurity may only be repeated once. Students must have written permission from the Dean of Business and Information Management to take a course for the third time.
- In total, only three different general business, major, or NU core requirements specific to Cybersecurity may be repeated.
- Failure to earn a grade of “C” or better for general business, major, or NU core requirements specific to Computer Information Systems may result in dismissal from the School.
