Citations and Bibliographies

This guide will assist students with creating and organizing their citations.

What are the parts of a source? Why do I need to know?

There are many resources to help students build their citations and bibliographies. However, understanding what needs to be included in a citation and where it can be found from your source can be challenging. Where is the volume and issue? What publication city should I use if many are listed? These are important because without knowing and recognizing the parts of a source, you will not be able to create a correct citation.

While you may use a citation manager, such as NoodleBib or the Microsoft Word citation builder, you still need to know what is what when looking at a source. You can use citation tools, but you cannot blame them if your citation is wrong.

This citation builder may be helpful, but YOU still need to know where to find the information to input. It is not always as easy as you think. Check out our pages below for help understanding and identifying the parts of a source.
